The Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have successfully engaged in collaborations that support military children and youth experiencing the deployment of a parent or loved one. The goal of the project is to create environments and offer experiences to military children and youth to promote their growth and development, and help them cope with the stresses of deployment and reintegration.
Land Grant Universities have accomplished this goal by providing a variety of camping opportunities to military-connected youth in their states. Camping experiences are recognized as valuable in helping children and youth develop life skills and mature socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. See the 2014 Corporate Report below. Youth and Family Camp opportunities are listed below.
Local/Regional Support Networks have been established in several states to build and develop networks of local community organizations, agencies, businesses, etc., to deliver connections and support for youth from military families where they live.
